So it was that in future years John Wesley indeed frequently referred to himself as “a brand from the
burning” – someone plucked by God from the flames - and he would live his life - would dedicate
his life - to “Taking up thy cross and following
God” - doing the Lord's work...
.
John
Wesley lived, each and every day of his life, as Galatians 6:2, NRSV, instructs:
"Bear one another's burdens, and in
this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

At 88 years of age, John Wesley passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 1791. His last words
were spoken twice, with great fervour, "The best of all is, God is with us." He lifted his arms
and said again, "The best of all is, God is with us."
On Wednesday morning we found the closing
scene drew near. Mr. Bradford, his faithful friend and most affectionate son, prayed with him, and the last word he was heard
to articulate was, "Farewell!"
